Description:
Staying at the Invercauld puts you in touch with the colonial roots of Jamaica. This beautiful property was originally built 100 years ago when the Black River area was a thriving sea port on the South Coast. The Georgian style Great House is a beautifully restored landmark and is furnished with many pieces of this early era. The original building has been expanded and the additions are attractive and blend with the original style.
The rooms in the original building are all unique, each with its own character. There are ceiling fans and beautiful furnishings throughout, but the original Great House is the most charming section if you have the opportunity to choose. Most rooms have a view of the ocean. All rooms boast air-conditioning, balconies, satellite TV, radios, hot and cold water, and baths.
The property is very attractive. There is no beach here, but the mountains greet the sea along this jagged coastal area and the vistas are wonderful. The restaurant has a formal feel but guests and staff alike are relaxed and kids of all ages are free to enjoy themselves. There is a freshwater pool and a comfortable bar by the pool. There are tennis courts, a discotheque and a meeting room is also available-what a wonderful location for your next board meeting!
The South Coast of Jamaica is wilder, more tropical and adventurous than much of the North Coast. Although beaches are rare, there is no shortage of water. YS Falls are nearby with wonderful freshwater swimming and diving, the Black River is beautiful and the alligators are pretty friendly. And firewater is available at the end of the Appleton Estate Distillery tour. Don't come all the way to Jamaica and miss this area!
Invercauld is a lovely place to stay and the rates are very reasonable. You will find the staff friendly and attentive. Get off the beaten tourist path and see the real Jamaica, and sense her history at this wonderful old hotel.
