We just returned, and are already planning our next trip to Montego Bay.
The butler service was well worth the price. Everything was perfect! |

Sandals provided a beautiful beach and a gorgeous room. Visited: February 2004 |

We stayed at this resort after staying at Sandals Ocho Rios. We were really reluctant to come to Montego Bay after the magnificant hotel we had just stayed at. But let me tell you, those Sandals people are incredible.
We had only paid for a "run of the house" room and ended up in a Grand Deluxe Oceanfront. The view was absolutely breathtaking and the room was a five-star! Everything here was terrific and I only suggest a little bit more entertainment on the beach. We like to party a lot. But all in all, this was a great resort. |

The food seemed maybe a bit better than in other resorts I've stayed at in Mexico. The service attitude was an A+. Everyone was very accommodating.
The beach was right outside our room and was beautiful. There were not many waves. We also had great weather. Beach chairs were easily available, although many needed to be replaced as they "sagged".
We paid for premium room so we could be near the pool bar, and we got upgraded to a honeymoon suite near the main pool. Our view would have been great, but the palm tree was right in front of our balcony. Most rooms overlooked the water, though.
I would not want to see the deluxe or premium rooms since our bathroom was very small. The room in general was small. The TV had many stations from the US (ABC from NY, Fox, CNN, NBC from Tennessee, MTV). The room safe was old and needed a key (if you lose it that will cost you $100). The rooms required a key also.
The resort was adjacent to the airport runways. It was right across the street. Planes could be loud, but were really not that big of a deal. They could be entertaining.
The bartenders were fun and entertaining, but they constantly ran out of cups. Cups were small plastic ones, so bring a larger plastic cup with you so you do not have to keep getting refills. They washed the cups for under one minute in the dishwasher because they needed more all the time.
The main pool was very small (the size of one you would have in the backyard at home). The beach was the highlight. The other pool with the bar was also small.
There were locals who paddled up the the piers and constantly asked you to come talk to them to buy stuff. If you are nice, buy something. If you do not plan on buying anything, they will make you feel bad, so don't go talk with them. |

Tacky and Tasteless Visited: December 2003 |

An awful experience. There's a reason why it's cheap.
The food is absolutely horrible. If you are coming from any large city in the US, you will be dumbstruck as to, for example, how a creme brulee comes out looking like white jello or how lobster tastes like chicken-flavored rubber. And I am not exagerating.
The prices are not all inclusive--everyone's always hitting you up for generous tips.
It's organized like a Soviet work camp. You are told where to sit, when to have fun, how to do it, and where it could be done. Otherwise, they "entertain" you--as with this year's New Year's entertainment which involved a grown woman dressing up in a red jump suit lip-sinking Anne.
I heard NO live Jamaican music; they were too cheap.
If you read this warning, don't say you were not warned. Go somewhere else. |

My wife and I went to Sandals Montego Bay on the recommendation of our friends. We read the reviews and had our concerns. However, they were a little exaggerated.
Everyone was friendly and eager to help. The food was very good. The drinks were good and the bartenders worked very hard. As far as giving tips, that is a personal choice. We did leave tips for those who worked really hard. These people worked from sun-up to sun-down, six days a week!
The airplanes were loud, but really, what do you expect when you have the convenience of being so near the airport? Negril and Ocho Rios had a lot longer bus trip!
We found that ages were very mixed. In the cheaper room blocks, it seemed to be a younger party crowd. We were in a cottage and it was private and quiet and there were a lot of people our age and older at that end of the resort (30 and above). Actually, we met and talked to couples in their 40s-50s more than we noticed a younger crowd.
We have traveled around a bit and my wife is very picky. We loved Sandals Montego Bay. The little negatives were so minimal and so not a big deal that I can't imagine that they would have left a horrible impression. There are always little things that go wrong, but in our case the good things far outweighed the bad. It was definitely worth the money. |

I am very very picky. My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon and we miss it already!
First of all, the employees were the nicest people. They were helpful and friendly - especially considering they work 12 hours (at least), six days a week for basically peanuts.
The planes overhead were loud. However, I would rather stay at the resort near the airport rather than the resorts that were a two- hour bus ride away.
I thought the pools were sufficient, the pool bar and piano bar were great, and the whirlpools were wonderful. We were upgraded to a cottage and it was older but very well kept. The beach and water were clean and beautiful. The food was fabulous.
Be sure to snorkel if you visit. Also, go to an orientation. They were every day at 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. It was totally optional, but they gave you information on tours and restaurants.
The only negative thing about our trip was our TV was not working. They thought it was because of the storm, but it wasn't. And a USA Today was $6.00. Needless to say, we felt very cut off from the world for almost our entire vacation. Overall, it was an excellent trip. We will definitely visit other Sandals as well as this one again. |

Very Disappointing. Visited: January 2003 |

Where do I begin? The staff is very friendly I have to admit. We got to our room and it is a 2x4 in size. Every time we walked past each other we banged into each other. There were ants galore all over the room and to top it all off my boyfriend stepped on a worm coming out of the shower. Disgusting!
The food was not at all "Ultra" All-inclusive. Buffets were thrown together at Bayside. Stay away from Cucina Romana, our food was served cold and it is a glorified version of the buffet. The OK Coral was ok. The steak was decent but not what you would expect from the hoopla Sandals draws you in with. The one restaurant we enjoyed was The Oleander room, but the dishes were too small that you probably need 2 plates two fill you up.
The Beach Bar had a great bartender, but it was so dirty with flies hovering all over the place. The entertainment was so childish, we felt like we were away at summer camp. Water sports facilities were very old and worn. By the way, for anybody concerned about the liquor situation, they have some top shelf brands, not everything and they only have Red Stripe Beer on Tap; we were expecting bottled beer. All in all, we were disappointed and it’s scared us off from ever visiting another Sandals.

After reading such mixed reviews, I was nervous about my trip. Once I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised.
Everything - the room, atmosphere, food and service - was excellent. My only complaint would be that the night entertainment lacked Jamaican culture and the pool was nothing great. But I would have preferred the beautiful beach anyway.
I didn't find the planes flying over head to be too annoying, but some people might. A suggestion would be to request a room away from the airport. Our request even got us an upgrade!
Our return flight was delayed until the next morning and not only did they give us a complimentary room, but a presidential suite! The staff was great and because no tips were accepted, there was no pressure. |

Sandals Montego Bay was a beautiful resort with excellent service, delicious food, and a relaxed atmosphere.
We became very friendly with the staff and found them to be courteous and helpful.
Our room was small, but immaculately clean and tastefully decorated. We greatly enjoyed the watersports and the entertainment each night was nice.
The drinks were non-stop. There were times I asked the bartenders to go lightly on the rum.
Being so close to the airport was a little odd at first, but soon we were used to the sound and we waved and kissed as each plane flew over.
We had the opportunity to visit Sandals Inn and Sandals Royal Caribbean and we truly feel that Montego Bay was the best of the three.
The only disappointment during our five-day stay were the Americans who were standing around whining and complaining about petty issues such as language barriers, cultural diversity and the consistency of the scrambled eggs - all the differences that should be expected when you visit another country.
I would highly recommend Sandals Montego Bay to anyone! |

Disappointed Visited: November 2001 |

My husband and I went here for our honeymoon and we were horribly disappointed. What some may interpret as a "no problem mon" attitude, I call lazy. When I asked for a wine glass (after my red wine was served in a beer mug) the waitress told me "you drink out of that lady, the dishwasher went home." The staff could have cared less if you were happy or having a good time. The workers at the water sports hut were too busy playing hacky sack to give us any help at all.
The "top shelf" drinks are watered down, the food was in a word bad. One night at the Japanese restaurant we were told they were out of appetizers and dessert. When I complained that these were things we had already paid for I was told "lady, you on vacation, relax."
The resort was outdated and lacked any sense of luxury. Our housekeeper walked in on us three times during our weeks stay. My husband was constantly pressured to tip the "complimentary" tennis pro with stories of his sick family and how little he was paid. We were refered to as "rich Americans" all the time. |

This was our first trip to Jamaica and we enjoyed every single minute of it. When we first saw our room we were a little bit disappointed because the room was not worth the price, but everything else made up for it.
The entire resort and the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and they were always taking care of us. The entertainment was very good and the beach and water sports selections were bigger than the other Sandals in Montego Bay and even Sandals Ocho Rios. The Beach party was excellent and the food and drinks were outstanding.
Many people complain of the low flying airplanes due to the nearby airport. This did not bother us at all; this is so insignificant in comparison to all the other things that are going on in the resort such as watersports, relaxing on the beach, etc. If you want an exciting honeymoon full of activities and tours this is the place to go, If you just want to relax and stay in the romantic side you can also do that at this resort. Your trip is always going to be what you make it to be.

A pleasant break under the warm Jamaican sun. Visited: November 2001 |

Friendly staff, a wonderful beach and generally well-kept grounds contribute to the beauty of this flagship Sandals property. As the first Sandals in the chain, this property naturally shows its vintage, but is undergoing renovations to update itself.
The staff at Sandals MoBay was warm, friendly and extremely accommodating. The attitude was most definitely "no problem." Restaurant service was attentive without being overbearing with each course served seamlessly.
The biggest drawbacks were the numerous jet aircraft, which zoomed overhead due to the resort's position along MoBay airport's runway as well as the US$4 service charge to make what should have been toll free calls (to access Canada Direct or AT&T, etc.). But the staff took the aircraft flyovers in stride and guests soon got used to the noise (which, while loud, did not last long).
The rooms were well appointed, spacious and clean. The housekeeping staff was very efficient. Our concierge suite included a fully stocked minibar and all rooms were equipped with satellite TV.
In general, this resort rates high.

I was very disappointed when I arrived here. The brochures definitely tell a different story. Upon arrival, the last thing I need after flying is to be herded into a room with other guests for orientation.
The room they portrayed as an oceanfront was nothing more than a 10x15 box with a view. My wife literally cried after we checked in, so they moved us to the beach huts at the far end, which was much better. The bright side was the food was delicious. Other than that, I would never ever stay or recommend this place to anybody.

Honeymoon Hideaway or MTV's Spring Break? Visited: September 2001 |

My husband and I traveled to Sandals Montego Bay for our honeymoon in September of 2001. Do not believe the pictures or the hype. This Sandals was not a relaxing, romantic getaway for honeymooners. It reminded me of a place for college grads to go get slammed. They had drinking games with blasting music out near the beach where the already drunk fools made even more fools of themselves.
The food was lacking. Our room was clean, but old--the balcony was huge however--one of the nicest things. I felt most of the people there were nice. But I was very disappointed in the conditions of this place. The rooms are in need of renovation!
They offer lots of day excursions--do NOT go on the Negril trip unless you want to spend 2 hours on the roughest bus ride you can imagine. While it's a scenic ride, it's miserable. And once you get to the Negril Sandals, you expect to be able to snorkle (that's how they market the trip). What they don't tell you is you have to sign up in advance and it's already full once you arrive at Negril, so basically you pay $60 a person to go to another Sandals resort and lie on the beach. You do go shopping and go to Rick's Cafe, but that's nothing I couldn't have done without.
All in all, it was a good trip b/c I was with my husband, but I will NEVER return to Sandals Montego Bay. I may try one of the new resorts. It's cheaper there for a reason! |

Exceptional Resort Visited: June 2001 |

We were upgraded here from Sandals Inn and I am glad we accepted the move. Our room was only a few steps from the beach. All the staff did there best to make it a pleasant atmosphere for us. The beach was well kept and the pools were wonderful. We didn't eat at all the restaurants, but all we tried were great. The food at the Oleander Room was exceptional.
There were a few things that keep me from giving the resort five stars. The water pressure in the room left a lot to be desired and sometimes was short on hot water. The planes going overhead regularly was an annoyance, but you get used to it. The staff has even developed a ritual of waving to the planes. A minor point is the whirlpools - the water was too hot to go into them, although some couples braved the waters anyway.
We were only here a few days, so we didn't take the shuttles to the other resorts, but if going you should definitely do so. We also didn't partake of many of the nighttime activites. Instead, we were up early when nobody else was on the beach.
In all, we had a wonderful time and would recommend this resort to anyone. |

For the money, not a good choice. Drinks were all watered down, and the wait at the bar was up to 20 minutes, because everyone was getting 3 drinks at a time. Food was average as well. Staff was nice. Scuba diving was fun. Planes going over your head every 15 minutes was not! The pool was the worst. It was freezing, and tiny! But, the beach was ok. |

Two different worlds on one island Visited: September 2000 |

My new bride and I flew to MoBay from Atlanta on Sept. 10, 2000. We were so excited about seeing Jamaica since we first saw the brochures at our travel agency - the brochures were so misleading. We were almost dumbfounded when we stepped off of the plane and noticed the run-down airport. We weren't in the airport for 10 minutes and were offered a chance to buy drugs. It got even more scary going to the resort seeing the run-down roads, landscape, and trash everywhere.
The resort, within its guarded walls, was wonderful. All of the staff were extremely nice and always willing to please. The room we had was a little disappointing - it was so outdated and old - but then again we hardly ever stayed in the room.
Kiman, in entertainment, was our favorite staffer. She always had time for us, no matter how busy she was.
Would we go back to Mobay Sandals? No, but we would go to another Sandals. |

Romantic and Relaxing Visited: May 2000 |

This was our first time going to a Sandals resort. We loved it. Our room was right on the water with a balcony. We got upgraded two levels. It was large and clean.
The staff and service was superior. (We have gone on 10 cruises and we know what good service is!) My husband’s sunglasses broke and they had a "if you need anything phone number" and someone was there in 5 minutes with superglue and a new pair of glasses.
The beach was large, clean and beach chairs were plentiful. The swim-up pool bar is small, with only about 8 seats. One of the hot tubs near our room was broken for the whole week, as well as the racquetball court. But if you’re looking for a good beach, this is the place. There was excellent food; we only had 1 bad meal.
It could be 4-star rated if the pools were a bit larger. I didn't feel crowded and nights on the beach were beautiful and serene. This was the most relaxing trip I ever had. I am going back and bringing friends. This is an excellent choice for the money if you want to relax and love the beach. If the drinks weren't strong enough we just asked to put more in and they did. I can't rave enough about the friendly staff and superior service we received. I can't wait for November to go back!

This casually elegant Ultra All-Inclusive, couples-only resort is part of Sandals' "Classic Collection" and is situated on 26 acres of lush gardens fronting Jamaica's largest private white sand beach.
